Spey Casting/Fishing School for Arctic Char
Our Northern Spey School for Arctic Char has runs of over 50,000 bright silvery and aggressive Char. 300 miles past the Arctic Circle, the only vegetation here is low shrubs and lots of beautiful green lichen and NO BUGS. When one visits this area one truly has the sensation of being on top of the world. The Ekaluk River is the perfect river for the Spey Caster, fast and wide. The Arctic Char are aggressive and coupled with their raw power and the fast current a 13'-15' spey rod is the ideal tool. The common weights 10 to 12 lbs with trophy fish over 16 lbs caught daily. Char can be caught in several different ways including on a skated dry fly or a greased muddler but their favorites are streamers tied on number 2 traditional salmon spey fly hooks. Fishing for Char takes place in on the Ekaluk River. The Char migrate up river 3 kilometers to Ferguson Lake where they'll spawn and winter. There are no mosquitoes or black flies, daily temperature mid 50's, comfortable solid heated cabins and delicious home cooked gourmet meals. The small window of opportunity to fish for Char takes place the last week of August. Space is limited to only 12 students/anglers per week and we book a year in advance. Ekaluk River Char are strong and beefy, expect to hook dozens of fish each day and everyone will take you into the backing before you can say, "Fish on!" How many of these mighty fish you'll actually land depends upon how good of an angler you are.
